Brickmaker's Son. By Ruth Hanna Sachs.

Three-act play about a teen-aged German-Jewish boy who comes to America in the 1800s, and his life and family in early 20th-century Houston.

Lovingly told by a third-generation Houstonian, this story is authentic in every aspect. From the music to the dances, to Dr. Pepper and Jim Crow, Brickmaker's Son celebrates the best and worst of life as an immigrant.

Most importantly to Sachs, the play demonstrates that today's anti-immigrant hysteria is nothing new. It's part of a cycle, one that can only be resolved with understanding and tolerance, hope and love.
